Hi Barbara,

I am not familiar with Orange. Is it a place to eat?

You don't need a microphone to use blogspot.com. I think that you need to sign up for a gmail account if you want to use blogspot.com Both blogspot and gmail are free, if you didn't already know that. Microphones are very inexpensive (not expensive), I would like you can go a place where they sell used merchandise and buy one very cheap. If you have headphones, sometimes you can use them a microphone, some headphones work better than others.

Sorry that I spoke too fast, I will try and slow down. I think if you spoke to me in Spanish, I would think that you spoke to fast as well. Thanks for you compliments regarding my voice, that was very nice of you.
As far as students go on this project, I have 3. There is Erik, Cristian, and yourself. I believe that Ms Calderon said that you guys will work together to do a presentation. Let me know if you need some help. Do you know how long our project lasts?

I will pass your compliments about my girlfriend on to her. She is in the education profession, just like your teacher. She is an assistant principal at very large school

How did you imagine me? Taller? Darker? Mas guero? More hair? ja ja ja

So you want to put your voice on blogspot? Do you have a computer at home or do you use a public computer at the school or at the library or at an internet cafe? The easiest way to do it is to record your voice and send it to me as a part of your email.

How much of what I write to you do you understand? 100%, 80%, 50% ??

I attached a pdf document with some minor corrections to your grammar. Maybe one day we can switch places and you can teach me some Spanish...........You would think that "Bryon is the worst student ever...! ja ja

Well amiguita I am getting ready for bed. I have big day of bicycle riding tomorrow........at least that is what I am planning on doing if the weather allows it.

Cuidate

-Bryon :D

Hi Barbara,
It is great to hear from you again. I hope that your weekend went really well.
What did you do over the weekend?

Thank you for the Spanish lesson, I know I need to keep practicing.:D It just seems that there is not enough hours in the day to do all of the things that I want/need to do, but I should put more time towards reviewing Spanish. I did purchase some new Spanish books from Amazon.com last week, but I haven't really had a chance to read them.

I like to travel as well. When the project I am working on ends, I would like to go Europe, probably Spain. I have never been to New York, but I would love to go. I have been to Canada two times. I have been to Toronto for work and Montreal for vacation. I know a lot of people (especially students) like to go to Toronto. I had several friends from Mexicali move up to Toronto to attend school for a semester or two. I really liked Montreal, it is very European looking and old.

Until last year I had a dog and his name was Titan, but he died last year while I was away at work. I was sad for a very long time. I bought him as a puppy in 1995. Do you have a dog?

I can't say that I know how to dance reggeaton or banda, but I am familiar with both styles of music. I did take dance lessons a long long time ago, long before I met my girlfriend, I was never very good, but I enjoyed it.

I am going to start posting your email to a blogspot I have set up for you and the other 2 students I am corresponding with in your class. I am going to try and read and record each letter I send to you so you can hear the words as well. (We will see how that goes) I'll send the three of you your links to your own blogspot once I get it ready. In the mean time I am attaching some photos.

Cuidate muchisimo!

Subject: Re: ENGLISH PROJECT TEACHER ADRIANA CALDERON

Hi Barbara,

I hope everything is well with you.

A quick note about speaking about ages in English. I know in Spanish that you use the word "tener" when describing someone's age. Like "Tengo 18 anos" In English you say. "I am 18 years old" or "She is 27 years old".

Here is a little bit of information about my family.
In my family there are six of us; my mom and dad, my 3 sisters and myself. I am the oldest of the kids. My sister Amber is 30, I have two sisters (Kerri and Kelly) who are twins and they are 20 years old. My sister Amber has 1 kid (baby), my sisters who are twins have 2 kids each. I don't have any kids/children….That I know of ja ja ;D

I have been dating my girlfriend for almost 5 years. She was born in Puebla, but has been living in Chicago for 25+years.

Currently I am working in the state of Mississippi; so I am about 900 miles (1440 km) from my girlfriend. I am working about 2.5 hours from the city New Orleans.

As far as places I have spent some time in the United States, I've been to Washington DC, Florida, Houston, Dallas, San Diego, LA, Portland Oregon, New Orleans and various places in between.

In Mexico, I have been to Mexicali of course, Rosaritto, Ensenada, TJ, Puerta Penasco, and D.F.

How old am I? Let's see, I guess I am 34 years old. My friends in Mexicali used to call me "Viejo Sangron" because when I was working in Mexicali I was 27 years old and they were all 22 and 23 years old.

If you asked my friends how I am as a person, they would probably say that "Bryon is smart." They would also say that Bryon likes to "crack" jokes and is pretty funny. They would also say that Bryon is a "study bug" (someone who studies or reads all of the time). I am not much of a sports person. I like to go out with my friends, or a least I used to. My friends have always been girls, ever since I was in high school. When I was in college, my roommates were girls. In Mexicali 100% of my friends were girls. Now, that I have girl friend I don't see or hang out with my friends that much. I also like my alone time. I really enjoy going to Starbucks, drinking coffee, and reading a good book.

My favorite music: Wow, that is a tough one. I would say that I like the groups that played when I was in college, so that would be bands like Nirvana, Green Day, Pearl Jam. I also like newer alternative music like POD and finger eleven.

I also like listening to Spanish music. I like the music of Arjona, Reik, Reyli, NEK, Moenia, Shakira, and of course Mana. I have been to see the following latin group/singers in concert. I saw OV7 at fiestas del sol in 2000. I saw Nicho at a bar in Mexicali. I've seen Arjona and Luis Miguel in concert in Chicago. I want very badly to see Shakira in concert some time. I think mainly because through her songs I learned a lot of Spanish.

Ok well I am going to let you go for now. Good luck with your project. So far you seem to be doing well. I haven't had any problem understanding what you have written. If you are having trouble understanding anything I have written let me know and I will try to help you.

Te cuidates y Buena suerte con tu proyecto.

Hi Barbara,
Let me start by saying that is very nice to meet you. I hope that you in enjoy this project, or at least you learn from it.
I am not 100% sure how Ms Calderon wants us to correspond, but what I am planning on doing is mimicking your statements back to you.

BARBARA TALAMANTES MARTINEZ wrote:
hello.:

My name is Barbara Talamantes I am a student of high school.
I`m 17 years old. I`m fun, I`m diligent in the school, I like to
know people and have a lot of friends.
My name is Bryon Gaskin. I was a student in high school along along time ago, about the same time your teacher Ms Calderon was in high school. I know that in Spanish you use the word conocer a (to know someone); however in English it is more common to say. "I like meeting people" or "I like to get to know..."

This mail is sent because I was forced by my teacher.
This is a new project, It`s fun for me. I like to practice my English.

So Ms Calderon forced you to do this project? If this project is fun for you and you like to practice your English, then I don't think she forced you. You might look at it this way, Ms Calderon has given you another opportunity to learn.

I`m live in Ensenada B, C, this city is pretty part, it has
a lot of tourist places. this city is so visided for many people
of another places. you should take a vacations at this port. i
f you don`t know this city you should visit us.
I visited Ensenada in 2000. I went there with one of my friends from Mexicali. Her last name is Calderon too, just like your teacher. Maybe you know her. She was on Big Brother Mexico (Eva Cristina Calderon). I have to agree with you Ensenada is a very nice place.

I want to know if you like your language?
tell me how is my teacher, my teacher is very
special for me and very demanding, she is a good person.
Do I like my language? Well I guess I do. English is different from Spanish in many ways, actually it different from a lot of the romance languages like Spanish, French, and Italian, especially how the sentenced are formed. What I can tell you is that compared to English, Spanish is a much more powerful language. Like it or not English is spoken all over the world and if you want to compete in the modern world you will need to be able to speak English.
Barbara, you and I have something in common, your teacher, Ms Calderon, was also my teacher while I lived in Mexico. I took a Spanish class at Cetys in Mexicali, and Ms Calderon was my Spanish teacher. ( I won't tell you if I learned anything from her or not :D)

Well I am going to let you go for now.
I hope you enjoy this project and if you have any questions about what I wrote let me know.

Regards,

Bryon

I`m waiting for your answer
have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
